Well, I may not have broken anything yesterday, but I made up for it today.
In order to have any place to look out the door, I had to set the Mark IV
on the floor. In the process, I shook loose the string RA drive. So I had
to fix it lying on the floor with my nose up against it. Sigh, these bones
no longer like such operations, and besides I can't see well enough, so I
mostly do such operations by feel. Not that my vision is all that bad, I
just seem to have no depth of field, and you need that to work on
mechanical stuff. In the process of all the work, I broke a couple of
connectors.
OK there was some progress. I started running at 6 PM and when the clouds
moved in at 11PM I was really ready to quit. I have been up and down those
spiral stars countless time. I sure got my exercise for the day. In the
end, I am pretty close. I almost have it pointed to the pole, and I can
move around the focus. Another night and I will be able to take some data.
North was not very close to where I thought it was, so it took a long
time to get there.
All kinds of things just keep working.
