Tom, it is important you report on these kinds of things. It may be the
case that a problem you see now may appear later - your notes leave a trail
that may be useful years from now. Especially for you.
Also, there are a lot of people who make noise about how to build CCD
cameras, or who even publish books about doing so. Few of them talk about
design problems or construction problems. You leave a trail for them too.
Most of the traffic on this email list is simply "not readable" in the
sense that you could publish it in a book as is. Believe me: I've
written several Tech Notes based on TASS email traffic - they are tough
to read, and tougher to write and edit! But they are informative, because
our email is informative. But an encyclopedia is informative too, although
most people would not sit down and read chapter "M" after dinner. So
the traffic may not always be entertaining or even exciting. Details
generally are boring until you need them.
