Arrrrrg!
Bringing a new computer up is never easy. This one has a built in modem
and 1 ISA slot. Guess what? They plug in the modem adaptor to the back
slot in the spot that the ISA card uses. So I have to put the ISA card out
on an extender. Well, this is what I like to do anyway. A buttened up
computer just asks for failure. It is also sure to be the one that is
stolen. I think I am pretty crime safe as all my computers operate opened
up with their guts hanging out. I suspect that people that steal computers
want complete ones.
OK, the real problem of the day is that I cannot get the serial port to
work. The manual says "The serial port is identified to the system as
COM1/3". What the heck does this mean? Looking in the system stuff it
seems to be COM1. That is what I am trying to use with my QBX
program. This is a 5 day old computer. Is there something new with COM
ports? The program gets past the write instruction but hangs on the
read. Anyone know what I might do? Note that I have run with possibly 10
different computers to date which work. Note that I have looked in the
system stuff and the configuration is just like a system that
works. Besides, the QBasic sets up the port. We have looked for jumpers
on the mother board and don't see any.
Any help?
