Mark IV test bed available over the Internet.
All,
Just in case anyone has too much free time on their hands
and wants to mess around with some Mark IV hardware first
hand read the bottom paragraph.
I have had the Mark IV electronics here at my house some time
now. I have found there is almost no need ever to go up stairs
and touch or look at either the Mark IV electronics or the computer
it is hooked up to (or the computer's screen or keyboard) It
has run without a re-boot or power cycle for weeks now.
Just last week I had a 768Kbps DSL line installed here at the
house. I have a static IP address and the line seems to stay
up solid at the rated speed. I have just finished connecting
the entire "house Ethernet" to the Internet via the DSL line.
I did an experiment from my office at work and found I can
access the Mark IV and it's control computer just fine from
there. In fact after 6:00pm it is quieter at the office than
at home (I have two kids) and I could (but don't) work better
there then here.
What's the point of saying all this? To let you all know
that any of you can have good and usable access to the hardware
if you want. Why should only few of us have all the fun?
Just ask and I can set you up with passwords and accounts here.
There is a lot that needs to be done. Don't know anything about
"C" programming and Linux? Well some of the work is in BASIC
and runs under DOS and some is STAMP BASIC.
