Re: Camera

Fear Tom,

If you want a lighter, easier to use program for image manipulation,
have a look at xv :

   http://www.trilon.com/xv or ftp://ftp.cis.upenn.edu/xv

xv is shareware (suggested 25 US$). There is a version for most unix/
linux, and also one for NT.

If you have a scanner and want to use the same image processor to drive
the scanner, have a look at

   http://www.tummy.com/xvscan/

xvscan is commercial, but cost just 50 US$.

Note that I have nothing against gimps. It is a fantastic program, very
high quality, very professional, very powerfull. For many things, it is THE
program you should use for image manipulation, as "photoshop". But if you
just want to crop a part of an image, change the gradient, luminance, colors
invert b/w or do some filtering, then xv or xvscan could well be what you
are looking for. And it is VERY SIMPLE to use.

Have a good time and enjoy your new toy ! Paul
