RE: New Linux Computer
OK, for those who may be curious.
I put the computer inside the box that the computer case came in.
It was a "made in China" case and the box had custom foam that I
reused. I put this box inside a larger box that read "Direct TV"
on the outside. Foam peanuts were placed inside the larger box.
So Tom's computer was double boxed. Along with the peanuts I put in
a keyboard, a mouse and the box the mother board came in. In the
M/B box was assorted CDs, floppies manuals and a collection of
invoices. When I closed up the Direct TV box I put six chris crossed
bands of glass filament tape around the box in two orthogonal
directions such that the box was divided into about 8 inch squares
by lines of glass strapping tape.
When tom got the package the Direct TV outer box had been replaced
with a generic box and the small M/B box with its contents was
missing.
I dropped off the box, all closed up to Mail Boxes Etc and had
them send it standard UPS ground insured for $1500 It was about 45 pounds.

Don't worry to much about the lost stuff. The documentation and
(useless) MS Windows drivers are all on the web. The disks that
I made really did not require that much work. Recovering crashed
computers is a common task and I used scripts developed by someone
else to build the recovery disk. If Tom gets his computer on the
'net I can log on to it and do just about anything, burn CDs or
whatever. Not a big deal.
