RE: Mike's TN: Planetary Transits
Arne,
Do you know how much time was devoted to the 5000 stars? Based on the
numbers I have used there should have been about 10 stars out of the 5000
that would have transiting hot jupiters. Do you have an idea of what kind
of efficiency they were expecting?
Thanks,
Mike

This sounds like an interesting project and should be
doable with a well-calibrated Mark IV.
I should note, however, that I talked with Charbonneau
and Brown (STARE) at the AAS meeting, and they say that they have
looked at some 5000 stars over a 4-year period. While
some data reduction is underway, casual inspection has
not shown any other transiting planets. So be prepared
for a negative result rather than the 16planet/year number
given by Mike.
