Another point in favour of ntp.
As it runs, it computes the drift rate of the native osc, and corrects
it. The drift rate is written to a file, so without any ntp reference,
it will trim the machine local clock by the measured drift rate.
BTW, ntp is pretty rugged to whats the network does. About the only
thing that will screw it is if the delays are greater one way than the
other to the reference machine.
