temporary computer shutdown

I should have posted this message yesterday, but better late than
never.

RIT performs annual maintenance on the power system in my building
right after the end of the school year. The power is shutdown two
nights. One of them was last night (Tues/Wed 29/30 May) and the
other will be tonight (Wed/Thur 30/31 May). So, the machines

           spiff.rit.edu
           stupendous.rit.edu

will both be down tonight from 5 PM EDT until 7 AM EDT tomorrow.

I'm sorry that I didn't mention this earlier.

By the way, it's possible that while I'm at the AAS meeting
in Pasadena (June 2-7), something _may_ happen to my machines
back in Rochester (random disk failure or something like that).
If so, I won't be able to fix it until I've returned.

Yesterday's analysis suggests to me that disk 18b suffers
from some cloudiness; nights 18g and especially 18h and 18i
appear to be best. I also discovered that the reason some
files on my copy of 18e appeared to be missing "FILTER" values
was because my copy of 18e is just a bad CD. Rats. Could
someone send me another copy of 18e, please?
