Tom & Michael's reply
Tom and Michael,
Thanks for the replies. I had skimmed Tech Note 56, in particular the part
discussing removal of spurious pairs. Looking at it a little more closely
this morning, I see: "Occasionally, one measurement of a star would differ
from the mean position by more than 15 arcsec, and we would create a new
entry in the catalog for it. I have attempted to remove some of these
spurious multiple stars, but several thousand remain." Aha, you have
essentially answered my question right there. Isn't it amazing what you
find when you read the manual? I suspect it is very likely then that the
two entries I'm concerned with are indeed a spurious pair.
Michael, there's no rush to look at it - I have a major meeting and
presentaion next week (airspace stuff, I'm an air traffic controller for a
living), and then I'm immediately off to the Big Island for two weeks, so I
won't be doing much with this for a while. I would like to get it sewn up
and fired off to IBVS by August or so.
For those interested, I put a gif image of the light curve of this star at:

Bear in mind that it's a work in progress, and ignore the GSC 5148-446
designation which is apparently incorrect.
Aloha,
Jim
