I agree with Edward on this one. My concept is that
the CDROM needs to be absolutely ISO 9660 standard. If
you need more information, you use a directory structure.
Note, Chris, that a CD is a static archival media and
you don't have any ambiguity as to where the data came
from or how it was created. It is only after the data
is read from CD that any ambiguity might arise; in that
case, I prefer some local program that concatenates things
to create uniqueness on the hard disk. In any case,
the FITS headers include all of the necessary information;
even if the files are written on a hard disk with confusion,
you can always find the correct file with the proper
search tools.
