Focus indication

Hey all,

I'm going to attempt to write some software which will give Tom (or anyone
else who uses it) and indication of focus for the examined image.  I'm
currently looking at a 200x200 patch of data from the center of the image
(although the whole image is, of course, available).  What would be the best
way to do this?  Calculate the PSF?  Andrew's ideas in Tech Note 73/75?
Something else?  Note that this is intended to be a real-time display of the
images (both bands) as they are downloaded, so I cannot spend a whole lot of
processing time to do this.
