I too want to avoid creeping featuritis.  What I have now is really good 
enough.  I have actually never seen a change of focus during a run.  What 
does happen is that I go up and work on the telescope.  I bump it and 
forget to refocus it.  What I want is something to remind me that I need to 
refocus.

It does not have to always do it right.  I just want something to attract 
my attention when it *may* need adjusting.    I will first look at a few 
frames, and the trend.
