RE: file naming
It's not well known but Windows (at least since Windows 95 and NT) do not
limit extensions to 3 characters on the hard drive. There is a current use
of the.fts extension though so I would vote for .fit as the extension on the
CD. The use of a rolling extension like we had for the Mark III is a pain.

Subject: Re: file naming
have studied all the correspondence on the mater of file naming and have
found that we have a consensus. It is:
jjjjfxxx.fit
The files will be put into directories that identify the camera location.
where
jjjj = last 4 day digits of the Julian Date
f = filter name (bvri) d for dark, s (short exposure) for bias.
xxx = sequence number starting at 000
I have determined that more of us agree on this format than on any
other. ;^) I am proposing additional letters for darks and bias frames in
the filter position. This would make it easier for those of us processing
images by hand to pick out darks. Actually, I mostly want to avoid darks
as I spot check the evening's data. Possibly not so easy for Rob to make
changes to his program. I will often want to pick out a dark through the
evening to test what the conditions are. Like how the temperature
regulation is working, etc.
