I can't find in this help much more IRAF Installations Guides
than in my previous source.
But start with command  'chown' as you wrote. And looks Ok
to moment when I running install script:

After unpacked all files and as in instruction:
%setenv iraf ...
%source irafuser...
%./install -n

Script run but output errors something like:

make symbolic link 'example' -> /home/iraf/iraf/unix/bin.redhat/'example'
/bin/ls: 'example': no such file or directory

What now happend??
