Or, if you cut your wordprocessing teeth on WordStar or its many clones
(including the code editors in Turbo Pascal, Turbo C etc) a few years ago,
then you may prefer "joe". Which uses almost all the same CTRL-whatever
keystrokes to do things.
Joe needs only a text-mode terminal, works fine through Telnet or SSH
connections, and can edit big files even in low-memory systems. It is
included with most Linuxes but it may not have got installed by default.
I liked joe well enough to get rid of vi (and emacs) on the systems I
administer.
