List and Help

My brother called today wondering if the tass list was down.  Everything is 
normal, I think.  I have just been busy learning to run Unix and program in 
Perl.  It keeps one off the street.  I am making good progress and soon I 
will be able to manipulate things under Linux.   That is why I have not 
made many posts lately.

There is nothing worse than someone who knows a little about how to do 
something.  Be prepared.  I will be insufferable.

While I am running this "keep the list active message", I might as well ask 
for help.  What should I use to make plots?  In general, I want to make the 
type of plots that everyone makes to plot sigma vs mag for many 
stars.  Also one to plot mag vs time.  At the moment I do not have IRAF on 
the machine where I am learning to compute.  I do have it on another 
machine with CDs as the only method of communicating between the two.   I 
seem to be able to muddle through installing a program if it is 
compiled.  I have never compiled anything.
