RE: Waiting for a good Control Program

I think having online access in the way you are indicating (driver testing)
would be difficult. Chris has the right idea by having a common source
repository where someone can download and test, or a login to a machine
which has the hardware, and where the hardware is not in 'production' use.
But once it hits production, I'd be leary of having someone test new driver
code, unless there were obvious deficiencies with the existing drivers.

That said, I'm running over a sattelite modem, which means when you press a
key, you get the echo back in about 1/2 second. Also, I'm running XP as my
entry point, as I get 10x speed increases by having Starband software
running. That said, I'll have to look into doing port forwarding from my XP
box to Linux. But I've no problem doing this.

But, what is needed/desired for online access? I would presume that once we
get some drivers everyone is happy with (ok, maybe satisfied with), that
we'd just need the ability to submit requests to the site running the
telescope, and have some means of getting data (raw or reduced) back. This
can be accomplished through direct access, e-mail, etc...

Later,
Rob
