Re: A Question about Dual CPU systems
One thing abouot SCSI vs. IDE disk drives. While the SCSIs cost
double the IDE and are a bit faster the real advantage of SCSI
is that it takes _much_ less CPU time to drive the SCSI. A fast
500mhz or 1ghz CPU can spend 25% or more of it's time
supervising an IDE
disk while the load to run a SCSI is trivial. The SCSI drive will
also have a command queue and work off the queue on it's own.
While I have a 1Ghz system on my desk at work the fastest PC type
computer I've ever used was a 450Mhz four CPU Xeon system. Each
Xeon has 2Mb on-chip cache. The cache makes all the diference
It also had 5 SCSI-160 disks configured as a RAID system
