Following John's advice, I was perusing the most recent IBVS issues at
Konkoly, and ran across another period analysis program - Period98
(ftp://dsn.astro.univie.ac.at/pub/Period98/current/)
It runs under Linux (huzzah!), and so far it seems better documented and
more user-friendly than either AVE or TS, but beyond that I'm definitely
not qualified to comment.

If anyone is curious, the program is mentioned in issue #5205.
