Without seeing the plot it's difficult to say what's going wrong but on
limited data sets periodograms can produce funny results. Different
methods can produce different answers but hopefully the true period
is one of the most likely to emerge from the analysis. For light curves
that are not properly sinusoidal, and twice the period thrown up by the
periodogram, like W UMa stars, aliasing problems can be a serious
complication.
