Tom,
  You don't start running into thermal radiation until you work
in the near-IR (~2microns) under normal conditions.  Of course,
red-hot glowing bodies will be observable in the visible bands!
If the radiation is coming from the air conditioner, you would
see a gradient in the image.  You don't tell us the structure
or level of the extra light.
  My guess is a combination of extra dark current due to the
increased temperature level, coupled with a change in the bias
level.
