August status report for ROB
Now that ROB is in hand, software progress is progressing faster. I've
completed a Perl 'driver' module which tests out well. A couple of
documentation changes and it'll be ready for anyone who wants control at the
stamp command level.
I'm now moving up a level and working on another module which will be
suitable for scripting with. For instance, dec_move will turn on the dec
motor, then the dec clamp motor, release the clamp, turn off the clamp
motor, move the dec, etc... I hope to have a first pass by the end of this
month.
Eventually, my goal with this software will be to also handle positional
feedback from reduced frames (if available) to help accurately point the
system. But that may take a while.
Currently, I'm working on drawing up an enclosure, with a moveable roof and
separate computer room. I'd like to start construction by the end of this
month.
The tools CD was delayed because ROB showed up (kid in a candy store). I've
all the software and will post a file list tonight to my web site. It will
be a 2 CD set. I believe that the IRAF RPM and IRAF tar distribution will
be on one CD, with everything else on the other. I'll e-mail folks when
their set is in the mail.
Later,
Rob
