Progress report: Mark IV online data
All the data Tom sent me is now loaded into the database.
11,853,745 observations!
At the suggestion of Tom & Ron, I have added a help page that describes
the layout of the downloaded data.
It has also been suggested to add a header to the downloaded data with
the layout information. I didn't do it originally because I wanted to
duplicate exactly the format of the file Tom had been sending out. I was
also worried about messing up any of the scripts that people had
developed to process those files.
It does make sense, I think, to add some kind of header information to
the downloaded data.
So, my questions are:
0. Yes? No?? Does anyone care???
1. Will this cause problems for anyone?
2. What information should I include in the header?
I have also been working to add more functionality to the webite.
There is a new page:
http://sallman.tass-survey.org:8080/markiv/servlet/markiv/template/ObjectTable.vm
where you can view all the objects within a selected region and download
data for a particular object.
Let me know what you think. Also, if you find any errors/problems. I've
already noticed a problem with the way I grouped the observations into
objects.
