Re: Status Report for March 2003
Andrew and all,
Wow! Someone actually looked at an old TN and asks an interesting question.
Michael allows fitting a 0, 1, or 2nd order surface to the data. I use
only the first order. I think this does not bother a nice star field.
I have looked at lots of fields. DS9 has a feature that allows taking N-S
or E-W sections through the image. The way I set up the cuts, this these
sections are either flat within the noise, or I throw the image away. So
far, I have not seen it throw away a good image that just had
stars. Clouds are another matter. I can set the cloud tolerance very
tight and eliminate any image where there is a visible change in cloud
density over the image. I can still keep images with uniform thin clouds.
I am running a test now to see if I want to keep images with uniform thin
cloud cover. We shall see.
