Well-executed nova and supernova patrols routinely obtain confirming images
of any new dots found. As well as check for known variables, reflections off
satellites, "stationary" asteroids, dirt on/in the camera, etc. But many of
these followup images are delayed by hours - or days - from the original
image. Relatively few patrols have the resources to run simultaneous imaging
from a second parallel camera.

All of the big gravitational lensing surveys (MACHO, OGLE etc) image in at
least 2 colours. This helps them distinguish a lensing event from the swarms
of stars brightening for more mundane reasons. But I don't know if they take
their images _simultaneously_ in both colours, or use a filter wheel for
consecutive shots.

The Mark IV may be setting a benchmark in this field?

cheers,
