Hey Tom,

Every 1x on DVD is equal to 9x on CD, so 4x DVD write is equal to 36x CD
write.  I'd pick up the Sony unit that does everything (the one Dirk
mentions, I have the same one), then you can pick and choose what format you
want to write.  I'll point you to http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/
again, and I believe there are some technical reasons in there somewhere as
to why the DVD+ formats are better.
