Maintenance
It looks like July is going to be a disaster for data taking. All three
systems were sick today. TOM1 has been sick for a week or so. I ran it
with the chiller on constantly because I suspected that the chiller
switch was causing a noise problem. This caused a lot of condensation
on the cameras and this got into the connectors. The result was that
the connectors on both cameras failed. It looks like the I camera is
fixed, but the V camera refuses to communicate.
Recent electrical storms seem to have killed the network card in TO3.
It was the last thing I suspected. Some time ago I bought 10 network
cards for $40. One never expects the cheap card to die. Sigh! I am
down to my last spare. I thought I was being really silly when I bought
10, but figured I might as well buy 10 at the price instead of the 2 or
3 I needed at the time.
TOM2 still has the problem where it wiggles in declination at some
angles. I look and look but don't see anything that binds the axis.
Sigh! Generally a discouraging couple of weeks. The only good news is
that it has been raining and I could not have taken data anyway.
