Re: Pipeline Production Problems
What's going on I think is he has one switch acting in effect like
a mulitplexer. It takes data from three computers ech over it's
own cable and sends all this data over one cable to a second
switch that in effect acts like a de-multiplexer and routes the
data to each of three other computers. The bottle neck is of
course the single cable interconnecting the two switches.
I I have described Tom's netwok topology corretly there is
no need to run any tests. It is clear that the some of all
the transfers can not exceed 100Mbps and that the only second
transfer show up the bottle neck.
There is now way around it. he needs to either live with a
100Mbps link between the two physical locations or install
more bandwidth, with unaviodably means more physical cable
or if he is _extreamly lucky_ the existing cable run will
support 1000BaseT. but likey either more cable or fiber is
required.
Note that you can double a Cat5 cables bandwidth by useing
all four pairs to support two Ethernet runs. (looks ugly but
works)
