Just a quick report on the status of the online database.
First off, I'd like to thank Tom for the opportunity to maintain the
database. It's been almost a year since I started this site, originally
to provide a way for people to download hunks of data like Tom had been
sending out in his "Bigfiles". Things have changed just a little bit
since then (hopefully for the better).
I have just completed loading the August and September data into the
database. There are now 71588476 measurements of 6091306 stars. I have
also received the October data, so that should be available soon.
Here are some counts of the usage by month for the last 6 months:
05-2003: 361 hits from 46 unique IPs (24 who "did something")
06-2003: 1303 hits from 87 unique IPs (31 who "did something")
07-2003: 651 hits from 99 unique IPs (32 who "did something")
08-2003: 1567 hits from 97 unique IPs (32 who "did something")
09-2003: 1477 hits from 132 unique IPs (32 who "did something")
10-2003: 3822 hits from 232 unique IPs (49 who "did something")
Attached are 2 plots.
The first shows the locations of anyone who has accessed the welcome
page on my website. The size of the square is proportional to the number
of hits. Superimposed squares (like the ones in the center of Australia)
are probably the result of a single user having a dynamic IP address.
The 2nd is a plot of October activity, showing only those users who "did
something" (download data, plot data, etc.).
I think the big pink one is Patrick (Wils, that is) :-)
I have created "activity" plots for the last 6 months, which I have
posted at:

Mike
P.S. Thanks to everyone who has offered suggestions for improving the
site. I just wish I had more time to implement them all.
But, keep them coming!
