RE: The Prize #6
Re: #7. As a SW quality engr, a detailed description of the algorithm is
mandatory, partly to validate the solution (is it REALLY analyzing the data
or just presenting a pretty result). Also, TASS is an OPEN project. If parts
of it suddenly become 'proprietary' those parts become useless, as does
anything that depends on them.
Unless the author commits to perpetual support, someone else should be able
to work on it, once released.
Re Choice of language/operating system: Given that all of the TASS systems
(I think) are currently Linux/UNIX based, I'd recommend a Linux/UNIX 'lowest
common denominator'. If others in the community will be assisting in
maintenance/support or if others need to compile for other OSs, I would
recommend restricting things to fairly mainline languages. I'm not sure
MUMPS should be acceptable, either from the technical or the support angle
(apologies to any MUMPS programmers in the environment; I haven't even tried
to look at any for more than 20 years.)

This was a good starting point.
Some comments and proposals for additions:

A detailed description of the algorithms may raise concerns
about intellectual property.
8) A submission consists of the *executable* code,
************
the result, and a procedure that allows the entire tass survey
to be processed in a reasonable time.
13) The method can use either the .cal files (preferred because
it is easier) or the dark subtracted and flat fielded images
* or the raw images and BIAS/DARK/FLAT calibration frames*

I propose to add this:
**) the programming language(s) and Operating System are at the
choice of the competitor.
