Fun with the Star List
Now that I have a nice star list I can have fun with it. The last plots
sent out were at random. Michael Sallman kindly looked them up and they
were all known variables. In the past this program finds about 50/50
known to possible variables.
I sorted the list for blue stars and ran the result through the finder
program. The cut was ws > 10 and V-I < .2. There are 80 such plots in
/plots1. The data for the plots is in /data1. I then looked at the 80
plots by hand. I have attached 3. None of the 3 was found in the GCVS,
but some of you are better at these searches than I am.
J020136.7+542906 Seems to have had a "blue flash". A V increase of over a
magnitude is pretty significant at mag 12.
J012551.6+853411 Is another blue flasher but not quite as significant.
J004231.0+563303 Seems to be flashing in V and I. OK, last time we saw
this it was an asteroid. Another time it was a sattelite trail that was
just bright enough to increase the brightness, but not bright enough to be
found by the software. This one seems to have had at least 3 spikes.
Possibly it is regularly visited by asteroids.
