Tom, Netscape Composer works fine. Its simple, clean, fast, easy to
learn (almost all of the commands you need are displayed in the
headers). I use the older version (Netscape 4.79 and earlier) but
I believe that the same functionality is built into Mozilla (though
Mozilla is somewhat larger and slower but it shouldn't be noticed
on most of the systems you run I expect.)
What you see in composer is pretty much what you get when you
display the page in a browser (note that there are subtle variations
in how the various browsers choose to display pages but these aren't
too significant IMO.)
Composer isn't for creating complex pages -- its for basic text
oriented pages. It isn't as fancy as something like PDF or TEX
documents (for technical materials) but it is great at getting
simple jobs done.
