In my opinion it takes both. Mailing list is a good place to debate
things. When someone says something dumb someone sees it and it
gets corrected. For example I assumed Tom wanted to keep both
DSL services. I was corrected quickly.
But it you are going to debate a plan, you'd better have the plan
in writting and editable or else the debate is just hot air.
Now that we know Tom wants only one DSL service the size of the
problem is reduced by an order of magnitude.
I can think of two options now:
(1) Keep the idea of a DMZ and use a linux based three legged
router
(2) Do the simple thing and use a Linksys router and have
only one LAN segment
I'm not sure the "plug and go" routers can take advantage of
having multiple static addresses. This issue may force use
of a more complex solution like using "shorewall" or whatever
firewal script it is you like.
