Adventures in Operation

Today we moved a new computer up into the dome to run tom3. I plugged in
the serial port and started the program. Suddenly the dome started
opening and closing at random intervals. Sigh! By mistake I had plugged
the serial port to the cable that controls the dome. By the time I could
do a panic halt, the South dome strap had wound back down the other way.
Now the up button causes the dome to go down and the down button causes it
to go up. Unfortunately it had gone to the full up position where the
limit switch cuts out the use of the control switch. Since the dome is
all the way up, the up limit switch prevents using the up switch to go
down. Too bad that this did not happen on the North dome where the up
limit switch is not working.

Fortunately the South dome is stuck full closed so I can take advantage of
the clear sky and take data tonight. Further if it is going to rain I can
close the dome. This is a good thing since Dan is off to Wisconsin on
vacation and it is too much for me to climb up and fix the strap.

Meanwhile, both tom1 and tom2 seem to be taking the first good data of the
season. It looks like I finally have them lined up on their tiles.
