First Data Set of the Year
The first data set of the year is up on mike at /home/tom/tp/tp01.tar.gz
The old data sets were tr for "tom research". The new data sets are tp
for "tom production".
This data is a little scuzzy as I am still getting things adjusted.
It is "tile" data. Users are advised to only compare data with data from
the same tile. I don't yet have enough "repeat" tiles to see how good the
data is, but that is a top priority project. Nothing has been done to
make the data "better" in the absolute accuracy sense. This data is
expected to look better. Actually it should really be more useful for
studying variable stars.
All the tile boundaries are set at 4 degree spacing in declination. In
ra, the width increases with latitude to make the overlap as small as
possible keepint 1 degree boundaries. When I get to it, I will write code
to take the .cal data and sort it into tiles with names like
184_+20_3519.345 Some of you might want to comment on the label.
If anyone out there wants to contribute, then a program to do this would
be appreciated. I always have other things to do. If you are
inteerested, I can send a list of where the tile centers are. They start
at 0 ra, 0 dec center and go in 4 degree steps. As dec increases, tiles
of 5, 6 , 8, 10, 15, 20, and 30 degrees in ra are used.
You will also find directories current_tom1, current_tom2, ... These
directories will get the current day of running in "real time". This will
be about 2 hours after the first data if the set is taken. I am currently
processing 19 image pairs at a time. I have not yet optimized all the
processing constants, but it is close. I will probably not go back and
reprocess this data so it is final.
This data is all taken with 200 second exposures. It is also being
processed so that when one of the filter pair is missing, the data is
still output with 99 mag in the missing filter.
The star detection is set at 4 sigma over background. Also the aperture
radius is set at 7 pixels. I will probably cut back the aperture when I
get the camera tilt and focus better. The images already look better than
last year and there is still fine adjustment to make.
I have lost the onld users list, so if you can't get attached with the
usual password at tass-survey.dyndns.org let me know and I will add you.
