Magic
Today my main phone line/DSL line is down. I have a second DSL modem
that I have never been able to get to work. So this evening I set out
to get it connected to the Apple. This has been my intention all along
to have the linux machines connected to one DSL modem and the Apple to
the other as a back up. Nothing I did would make the connection. The
Apple has been working fine on the linux network so I knew that I just
had to figure out what to put in the Apple boxes. Eventually I gave up
as Jennifer was dragging me off to see the Harry Potter movie.
After I got home, I thought I would give it one more try. I just opend
the network box and did the basic things. I almost fell off my chair
when it said I was connected to the internet. So I must have collected
some magic from Harry. Hmmm! I guess I better get a Harry Potter DVD
to use in emergencies.
It did not help that the installer gave me the wrong IP addresses for my
modem.
Still plugging away on the data. At the moment (last few days) there is
something very strange about the error distribution. The mag vs sigma
curve looks normal except there are *no* points between 9.75 and 10.25
mags. There is not a 10 or a 0.25 anywhere in my program. Boggle! The
raw data distribution is OK. Boggle 2.
