Slowly I have been getting the telescopes working. tom1 has been a
particular problem. I am now starting runs pointing further West. This
gives better looking data. At least part of the time tom1 was looking
at the top of the tower. I have not missed much since there have been
very few good days this year. Local weather says a record for
cloudiness.
tom2 has a slightly sick shutter. It is taking what appears to be good
data so I let it run. If I waited for everything to be perfect there
would be no data. This will get fixed in a couple of days.
tom3 is the remaining mystery. It produces good looking data, but very
few .ast files. Michael has suggested a high declination problem, but
this is not the case. It produces more data at high decs and those
lower. What it does do is fail if there are too many stars in the
field. It finds a .ast solution with 6000 or fewer stars, but fails for
higher. I am preparing a data set for analysis if someone wants to look
at it. I will put it on Dan and also make a DVD with a whole night's
data.
It is a real drag to get up to the telescopes these days. I have
trained Dan and Jennifer to do most things but sometimes I really need
to look at a problem.
October will be a fair month. 12 Million or so measurements. We
keep going.
