I've mostly lurked on the TASS mailing list since the beginning and I was sad to hear of Tom's passing. What impressed me about Tom was his joy and enthusiasm for doing the science and his attitude toward life which always showed through in his postings.

I appreciated the way he insisted that all aspects of TASS be public, warts and all, to show the way science is really done. I also found him quite enthusiastic to answer my basic questions when I emailed him privately. He was a unique character the likes of which we don't see much of these days in science and I'm glad for the brief interactions that I had with him.

My condolences to his family.
